Canada is the largest country in North America and the world's second-largest country, with a population of just 35 million people. As a result, it is a sparsely populated yet affluent country. It's also a popular vacation spot for both visitors and business travelers.

Many people associate Canada with its vast cities of Quebec, Montréal, and Vancouver, despite the fact that the country's formal capital is the considerably smaller Ottawa.

Many people from other countries came to Canada after WWII. Immigrants or their descendants make up nearly 90% of the Canadian population. Around 25% of Canadians are of British descent, whereas 24% are of French descent. However, Canada's original occupants, the Inuit and indigenous, are still well-represented in the population.

Geography

Canada is the world's second-largest country, with a size of 9.1 million square kilometers. Canada is situated in the upper part of North America, with three seas separating it: the Pacific, Atlantic, and the Arctic. In reality, Canada has the world's longest coastline. It shares approximately 9,000 kilometers of land border with the United States to our south. That is the world's longest border! Most Canadians reside only a few hundred kilometers from the US border.

      Language

In Canada, both English and French are widely spoken. The majority of Canadians speak English as their first language. Certain areas, such as Quebec, have a higher proportion of French speakers. The Inuit speak a variety of languages, the most common of which being Inuktitut.

      Culture

British, French, American, and Inuit civilizations are all represented in Canadian culture. Ice hockey is the chosen winter sport, whereas lacrosse is the national summer sport. Curling and Canadian football are two other popular sports among Canadians. The maple leaf (which appears on the flag), the beaver, the Canadian goose, and the ice diver are all national icons. The totem pole appears frequently in the artwork. Last but not least, the Hawaiian pizza was created in Canada (whether a good or a bad one is a discussion for another time).

      Currency

The Canadian dollar (CAD/C$) is used in Canada. Citizens of the United Kingdom can use their debit and credit cards as usual in Canada; they can also be used to purchase Canadian dollars at cash dispensers.

        Government/Political setup

The government of Canada is democratic. Ottawa, Ontario, is Canada's capital. The House of Commons, which has 338 elected members, and the Senate, which has 105 appointed members, make up the Parliament. Members of Parliament (MPs) are elected every four years on average. Canada's Head of Government is the Prime Minister, who is generally the leader of the party with the most MPs in the House of Commons. The Cabinet is made up of 20 to 30 ministers appointed by the Prime Minister. The Cabinet is responsible to the House of Commons and establishes government policy.

Each of Canada's ten provinces and three territories has its own legislature led by a premier. Education, health care, and driver's licenses are all within the jurisdiction of provincial and territorial governments.
